The Woman with a Key
I restored this Russian painting when I specialised in the conservation of Russian Paintings from my studio in Paris. The vibrancy of the colours was particularly striking after cleaning.
Process
I removed the layer of grey dirt that had accumulated on the painting. There were a few scratch marks that needed retouching but in general the painting was in very good condition. The decision to remove the dirt layer was an aesthetic decision. A painting that needed restoration rather than conservation.
